Southern Region Championships for Combined Event Athletes

The RiverHawks had three athletes competing at the NWAC Southern Region Championships over the weekend. Sophomore Carver Beck finished 4th with freshmen Dustin Baze and Noah Retherford finishing in 6th and 8th respectively. All three will earn team points for the Southern Region Championships held at Lane Community College on May 22.

Beck was able to win both the high jump and pole vault sections of the decathlon and established a new lifetime best in the pole vault with a jump of 4.10m. Baze improved on his personal best decathlon score by almost 300pts. Baze had personal bests in the shot put, pole vault and the 1500. Retherford, UCC's top obstacle course athlete, is experiencing track and field for the first time, was able to earn a point for the team with his 8th place finish.

"All three men worked very hard over the course of the weekend," said Coach King. "Together they earned nine points for the team moving forward to the championships."
