Track Team Battles the Weather to Produce Wins

The Oregon spring weather was in full force for the Prefontaine Masters Track Meet. The weather produced plenty of rain, but the most difficult to navigate was the wind. The direct headwind with wet grip on the poles led to the cancelation of the pole vault competition as well as impacting the performances across all events. Despite the weather, the RiverHawks still produced wins, personal bests, and school records.

Coming away with event wins were Shakiya Candelaria in the women's 200m dash, Samantha Eichman in the women's 800m run, Kaylee Hendron in the women's discus, and India Dishman in the women's hammer throw. For the men, Christopher Penn (200m), Abraham Ater (400m), Tristan Wood (800m), and Konrad Raum (5,000m) all came away with a win.

The biggest highlights during the meet for the RiverHawks were in the 5k. Despite on and off torrential rain and heavy wind gusts, Konrad Raum bettered his personal best by 35 seconds to improve his school record time to 16:20.70 and come away with the win. The 5k on the women's side was also impressive. Teammates Samantha Eichman, Kristen Thomas, and Elisabeth Jarvis finished 2-4 in the race. All three women surpassed the previous school record. The most notable of the three was Jarvis, who ran a personal best by just over two minutes.

*Please note the school records are from the reinstatement of the track & field program in 2019.
