The UCC's Women's Soccer Team opened Southern Region play with two wins against Chemeketa Community College and Clackamas CC. UCC played their first match in the history of its program on Wednesday, scoring 2 goals in the first-half and four goals in the second-half defeateding Chemeketa 6-2. Former Sutherlin High School standout Jadyn Vermillion and Celeste Pearisaeff each scored a pair of goals for the Riverhawks. Vermillion scored in the seventh and 19th minutes, while Pearisaeff converted in the 58th and 71st minutes. Amy Duvall (69th minute) and Stacy Johnson (88th minute) added goals for Umpqua. Duvall and Mariah Summers had assists, and Roseburg graduate Gabrielle Dukes made six saves.
In UCC's first home game of the season on Saturday at Sutherlin High School the team defeated Clackamas 2-1, with both goals coming from Jadyn Vermillion in the first half. Clackamas scored off a free kick in the first-half. The second half remained scoreless for both teams, but UCC dominated with a total of 22 shot with 14 shots-on-goal.
"It's a great start to the season. Both games were a strong performance," UCC coach Whitney Pitalo said. "The girls followed the game plan well and overall the defense did a great job keeping shots at a minimum and offense creating dangerous chances in front of the net."
Umpqua is scheduled to host SWOCC at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sutherlin High School. Spectators are allowed in the stadium.
