UCC Softball Team Puts in the Work to Improve Home Field
Roseburg, OR — 28 August 2025 — The Umpqua Community College (UCC) RiverHawk Softball program is rolling up its sleeves and putting in the work—on and off the field. In preparation for the upcoming season, players and coaches have dedicated time and energy to improving their home facilities, ensuring the field is functional, safe, and ready for competition under NWAC (Northwest Athletic Conference) standards.
The RiverHawks' home field, located on Stewart Parkway next to the Parkview Skating Center and YMCA, has been the center of these recent upgrades. The team has been hands-on with multiple projects, including painting and refreshing the dugouts, constructing shelving units to better organize storage areas, and resetting the bases, home plate, and pitcher's mound to align with NWAC size requirements.
These efforts have been made possible through a partnership with Umpqua Valley Christian School, which has also been investing in and working on the field's improvements. Together, both programs are committed to creating a high-quality facility that benefits athletes and the community alike.
"Softball is more than what happens between the lines," said UCC Head Coach Steve Williams. "This work teaches our athletes the value of pride, ownership, and teamwork. Every swing of a hammer or stroke of a paintbrush builds not only our facilities, but also our culture."
These upgrades follow the exciting launch of UCC Softball's inaugural season in 2024. Now entering their second year, the RiverHawks continue to focus on growth, development, and establishing traditions that will support the program for years to come.
The UCC Athletic Department extends gratitude to the players, staff, and supporters who have made these projects possible. Community members are invited to follow the RiverHawk Softball journey throughout the season and cheer on the team as they represent UCC with pride.
