The women's wrestling program at UCC delivered an outstanding performance last weekend at the Buena Vista Open in Storm Lake, Iowa. Among several impressive achievements, UCC's own Bella Ngo dominated the tournament, claiming 1st place in the 131 lb. weight class. In the finals, she defeated the previously top-ranked wrestler with an incredible 10–0 victory.
Bella went undefeated throughout the event, posting a flawless 40–0 score and earning the new #1 national ranking at 131 lbs. this week. Details of the national rankings can be found at The Open Mat. She also secured an impressive #5 national Pound-for-Pound (P4P) ranking, a distinction that highlights the best wrestlers in the country regardless of weight class. The P4P concept essentially asks, "If all wrestlers were the same size, who would be the best?"
Wrestling Director Coach McCoy praised Bella's relentless work ethic, crediting her success to her commitment to "walk in and crawl out." This means that every time she steps into the training room, she gives absolutely everything she has—pushing herself to the point where she has nothing left. He emphasized that Bella truly understands the sacrifice required to compete at the highest levels and recognizes how much an athlete must be willing to endure and suffer to rise to the top.
Congratulations, Bella! We are so proud of you!
