We are looking for coaches that specialize in the Jumps (long, triple, and high) and Throws (shot put, discus, and hammer). JOB DESCRIPTION
 
TITLE: Assistant Track Coach (Jumps/Throws/Combined Events)     GRADE: Stipend
DEPARTMENT: Athletics                                                                CLASSIFICATION: Faculty Part-Time

RESPONSIBLE TO: Track & Field Head Coach and Director of Athletics

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Assistant coaches provide a successful, high quality and competitive experience for the student-athletes as it relates to the goals of the department and college. Assistant coaching responsibilities will include pre-season, in-season, post-season and out-of-season responsibilities. Coaching hours vary and may include days, evenings, weekends, travel and other hours as required by the coaching schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with coaching, recruiting, training, and supervising student-athletes. 
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the rules governing the sport to be coached.
  • Maintaining statistics, athletic equipment, facilities and supplies. 
  • Provide leadership in the personal, athletic and academic development of student-athletes. 
  • Assist the Head Coach with fund-raising activities. 
  • Ensure adherence to all Umpqua Community College, Athletics Department, Northwest Athletic Conference, and other regulatory agencies rules, policies and procedures by the program's student-athletes, coaches and staff. 
  • Develop and implement sports strategy, position assignments and plan practice/training sessions upon request. 
  • Work cooperatively with the Head Coach and support staff to ensure proper scheduling, field usage and care of facilities. 
  • Ensure and actively promote positive reinforcement and encouragement. 
  • Participate and work collaboratively and respectfully in a team environment. 
  • Confer with students on athletic evaluation results. 
  • Comply with Oregon Department of Motor Vehicle laws while driving college van/vehicles to and from events; both in the evening and daytime. 
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students. 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May work in inclement weather 
  • Ability to lift or transport forty (40) pounds with or without assistance
  • Will stand or sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Safe operation of motor vehicle for travel and field maintenance as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of competition experience in cross country and/or track and field at the collegiate level OR Two (2) years of experience at the high school level or equivalent. 
  • Previous coaching experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within one (1) month of hire. 
  • Ability to possess a valid Oregon driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • A current and valid driver's license and the ability to pass the online driving test for Oregon Motor Pool and Lane Motor Pool within one (1) month of hire. 
  • Knowledge/experience in competing or coaching Shot Put, Discus Throw, and Hammer Throw OR Long Jump, High Jump, and Triple Jump.

Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications:

  • 2 years of higher education
