RiverHawks Sweep Doubleheader at Southwestern Oregon

The Umpqua Community College baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep over Southwestern Oregon on Saturday in Coos Bay, earning a 6–3 victory in game one before rallying for a 9–7 win in game two.

Game 1 – Umpqua 6, Southwestern Oregon 3

Umpqua used a five-run third inning and a strong start from Beau Ramsey to take the opener.

The RiverHawks broke the game open in the third inning with a string of timely hits. Jackson Thomsen started the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Caden Kuhnert. Trevor Ratliff followed with a two-run single, scoring Thomsen and Shiloh Wilson to make it 3–0. Triston Wallace capped the rally with a two-run double that plated Ratliff and Noah Kiley, giving Umpqua a 5–0 lead.

Umpqua added another run in the fourth inning when Thomsen drove in Aiden Metzker with a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 6–0.

Ramsey controlled the game on the mound, tossing six shutout innings while allowing just four hits with three strikeouts.

Southwestern Oregon mounted a late push in the eighth inning, scoring three runs highlighted by RBI hits from Grayson Grover and Hiroto Horikawa. The RiverHawks bullpen held firm as Tristan Ledbetter closed out the ninth to secure the win.

Umpqua finished with nine hits in the opener. Caden Kuhnert and Jeremiah Robbins each recorded two hits, while Thomsen, Ratliff, and Wallace drove in two runs apiece.

Game 2 – Umpqua 9, Southwestern Oregon 7

The nightcap featured late-inning drama as the RiverHawks exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning to take control and complete the sweep.

Umpqua struck first in the opening inning. An error allowed Shiloh Wilson to score before Jaxon Marble followed with an RBI single to give the RiverHawks a 2–0 lead.

Southwestern Oregon slowly chipped away, tying the game in the fifth and taking a 3–2 lead in the sixth.

The RiverHawks responded with their biggest inning of the day in the seventh. Jackson Thomsen reached on an error that brought in two runs to put Umpqua back in front. Ben Allen followed with a two-run single, and RBI hits from Taylor Davis and Wilson pushed the lead to 8–3. Trevor Ratliff added another RBI later in the inning as Umpqua sent 11 hitters to the plate.

Southwestern Oregon made things interesting with three runs in the eighth to pull within one, but the RiverHawks held on to secure the 9–7 victory.

Umpqua tallied 13 hits in the second game. Wilson finished with two hits and two runs scored, Thomsen added two hits and two RBIs, and Allen delivered two hits and two RBIs. Caden Kuhnert and Aiden Metzker also collected two hits each.

Camden Hartsell started on the mound for Umpqua and pitched five solid innings, allowing two runs while striking out four.

With the sweep, the RiverHawks continued their strong run in conference play as they returned from Coos Bay with two key road victories.
