Both of the basketball teams at Umpqua Community College travelled to Mt. Hood and came away victorious in the opening weekend of Northwestern Athletic Conference play.
The men sprinted out to a 49-35 half-time lead and cruised to an 89-76 victory. Conner Shaw had 21 points, as did Eric Klekas, to lead the RiverHawks. They were followed by Coleman Johnson and Ethan Betts, who each chipped in with 17 points. Johnson collected 13 rebounds to post a double/double in the victory. With the with the men move to 10-4 on the year an 1-0 in Southern Region play.
The women of UCC continued to roll with an 84-62 victory over the Saints. Dajanay Powell led the RiverHawks with 18 points in just 10 minutes of play, followed by Bria Thames with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. With the win the RiverHawks move to 14-0 on the season.
